World Malaria Day 2018

Zambia joined other countries worldwide in commemorating this year’s World Malaria Day (WMD) on 25th April, 2018, under the theme "Ready to Beat Malaria", and Zambia's accompaining slogan, "Malaria Ends with Me". Roll Back Malaria (RBM) partners united their advocacy efforts in commemorating this event yesterday.

The commemoration of this event provides the country an opportunity to highlight and showcase its successes, challenges and best practices in Malaria prevention and elimination.

This year's national event was held in Kabwe, at the Civic Centre, Central Province.

The event was graced by the Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, MP, MCC. The Guest of Honour at the same event launched the malaria elimination Business Plan, Communication strategy, malaria diagnosis and treatment guidelines, and ITNs distribution guidelines. He further called on all Zambians to prevent malaria by utilizing current evidence-based interventions.

Ngabwe District and Southern Province were awarded for good performance in malaria elimination.

Groups across the country joined in celebration to mark the incredible progress to date and to sustain momentum towards a malaria-free Zambia.

In North Western Province, World Malaria Day was held in Kalumbila District with a package of preventive and curative health services aimed at eliminating malaria as well as raising awareness on how to prevent malaria. North Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu graced the event calling on all stakeholders to advocate for support from traditional and civic leadership towards behavior change and communication for malaria elimination.

Livingstone DHO celebrated 2018 World Malaria Day by conducting community activities. 
Areas covered were Natebe, Mshululo and Nyanzabile. These areas reported increased cases of malaria in qtr 1 of 2018. The team conducted test and treat for malaria.

Community activities during 2018 World Malaria Day Commemoration in Shiwang'andu District. All Health Facilities held their own mini commemorations and the DHO join in one of the facilities.

Kazungula District celebrated World Malaria Day with a mass test and treat campaign, intensified social behaviour change and communication for malaria, and malaria data quality verification exercises at community and facility levels.

Sinda District commemorated 2018 World Malaria Day at Mng'omba Rural Health Centre. 
Activities included test and treat as well as community sensitization on malaria. 
Speeches, Exhibitions, Drama/dances and IEC. 
The event was graced by the District Commissioner.
